My favourite season is upon us. As soon as the temperature starts to drop and the leaves begin to change colour, I find myself excited for fall.
There’s just something about this season that puts a smile on my face. Aside from the pumpkin flavoured everything (yum), the scarves, cute boots, cozy turtlenecks and Thanksgiving, there is something beautiful about fall that is exposed outdoors.
I decided that I want to embrace all the opportunities, fun things and events that are special to the season. I am prepared to bundle up in my cute fall clothes & embark on each of these date ideas.
Go on an Art Walk
The coloured trees and crisp air is an enchanting atmosphere to take a walk and enjoy the view. Art walks are a beautiful and relaxing way to spend a low-key weekend afternoon. No piece of artwork is the same and each is unique, just like that special someone!
Visit a Farmer’s Market
Taking a walk and explore. Not only are farmer’s markets an excellent way to support local producers, but shopping there is fun and cost saving. You can browse row upon row of fresh local fruits & vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads & pastries, garden crops, flowers, crafts, clothing, and wares. Many markets boast ready-to-eat foods including local specialties (in Waterloo) like apple fritters, and international favourites like crepes, perogies, donairs and more. Stock up on some of your favourite desserts that are popular to the season, like pumpkin pie, tarts and apple crisp pies!
Try a New Recipe Using Fall-Inspired Ingredients
Some of my absolute favourite foods are in season during the fall (honey crisp apples, am I right?). Try cooking up a new recipe together using fall-inspired ingredients!
Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Go Apple Picking
This may seem obvious. But if you haven’t taken the chance to visit either of these outdoor activities, add it to your bucket list this fall. Enjoying the scenery while picking out the perfect shaped pumpkin and/or apples will both relax and excite you. Typically a pumpkin patch will offer other fun activities, too. Maybe take a hayride, venture through a corn maze or jump in a huge pile of leaves.
Carve Pumpkins & Cook Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin carving is almost like a fall staple. Whether you still celebrate Halloween or not, pumpkin carving can be a fun and slightly competitive activity to do with your significant other or friend. Get messy and creative!
Don’t throw out the pumpkin seeds, because toasting them makes for a great snack. After you rinse the seeds thoroughly, preheat the oven to about 300 degrees F. Toss the seeds in a bowl with some olive or coconut oil, and sprinkle in a bit of pink salt and pepper. Spread the seeds on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes.
Grab a Hot Tea & Hit the Trail
Going on a hike during the fall is the best way to see nature as the colours change. Bundle up, sit a hot (pumpkin spice late, of course) beverage, and enjoy the view.
Donate Canned Food Items or Rake Leaves
When I think about the fall I think about Thanksgiving and everything life has blessed me with. It’s so important to give back to the community and it is a great way to make yourself feel good. Donating foods to a local food drive or shelter, or raking leaves for your neighborhood can be a bonding experience that leaves you feeling accomplished. This contribution may seem small to you, but to someone else, it can make their day.
Have a Halloween-themed Movie Night
What better way to get cozy with someone than during a scary movie! Grab a warm blanket, pop some popcorn, bundle up and enjoy a film perfect for Halloween.
Visit a Local Festival or Fall Fair
It will bring back childhood memories you missed dearly. Even if you are accustomed to the big city, getting out to a smaller town festival or fair is a great way to spend the day with someone you care about. Buy candy, play a few games, ride on the Ferris wheel and explore some vendors you never knew existed.
Hope you enjoy some of these date ideas! Let me know some of your favourite things to do during the fall!
