My intention with this blog post is to not present you with some typical “new year, new me” promises.

Planning and having the opportunity to approach a new year with purpose has always played a significant role in my days leading up to New Year’s Eve. I always set out resolutions and goals that I will strive to accomplish before next year rolls around.

I am attacking 2017 in a new way. I have decided that I am going to take this next year to better myself and do exactly what makes me happy. No, I am not going to “cut out sweets” or “drink more water” (two of my resolutions last year).

This year I am laying out guiding principles, and words to live by that I will use on a daily basis. Time is not something we are all guaranteed, and I plan to surround myself with like-minded people who are positive and uplifting. I want to spend every day bettering myself not just physically, but mentally, as well. I have become good at saying goodbye to toxic and negative people in my life. I will continue to spend time with people who lift me up, inspire me to be a better person and appreciate the little things in life that are often overlooked.

3 things I’m working towards:

  • Positive self-talk. I will remind myself that I am capable, worth-it and strong.
  • Experiences and travelling to places I have never been around the world. Germany, Spain and Italy.
  • Taking a “me” day at least once a week. Whether it’s a massage, breakfast alone at my favourite local spot, or doing meditation.

3 things I am letting go of:

  • Stress. I often let work stress and mistakes in the past get to me and make me feel anxious. Every day is a new day.
  • Spending/wasting money.
  • Workouts I do not enjoy.

Commitment to: Reminding myself that the past is the past. Every day is an opportunity to change your life and who you are. I plan on focusing more energy on my emotional well-being.

What are some of your resolutions for the new year?

Enjoy ringing in the new year, everyone! Surround yourself with people who made 2016 great. Let’s make 2017 our best year yet.

Cheers!
